In his current position, Paul has undertaken a number of projects, many of which are on-going.
Virtualisation
outlined the potential benefits of virtualisation, including power and space savings, initiating a trial and review of virtualisation technologies. Once a technology had been chosen, Paul designed and deployed a number of centrally-managed virtualisation servers at a number of local and remote sites.
"WinBuild"
an unattended installation system, allowing zero-touch installation of computer systems. The system comprises of a web-based GUI for configuring the machines to be installed, a PXE-boot system to boot from the network, and customised software installation packages. Capable of installing Windows and Linux.
Linux Repository
implemented an internal mirror repository for CentOS Linux, allowing internal clients to apply security updates and patches to the OS. Integrated with the automated installation system to allow network installs of CentOS Linux.
Registration System
a network automated security and registration system, which is still in active use at an Oxford College. The system allows students to register for network access, based on criteria set by the College. The Registration System secures network access by allowing access only to registered students, and by filtering by MAC address.
Paul has an active and keen interest in Web Development. In the past he has used ASP and PHP to create database-driven websites. He is currently learning Ruby on Rails and is planning on using this young technology in future website projects.
